What Residents Love About Life at Harriott

At Harriott, we believe that the best way to understand what makes a place special is to ask the people who live there. We recently ran the Harriott Neighbourhood Shapers Survey, inviting residents to share what they value most about life in our community.

With 62 responses (more than double our previous survey) it’s clear that our residents are invested, engaged, and proud to call Harriott home.

Here’s what they told us about life at Harriott:

Coastal Living, Built into Everyday Life

One of the most distinctive features of Harriott is its easy access to some of Victoria’s best beaches. In the survey, most residents reported visiting the coast at least monthly – many even weekly. Barwon Heads, Ocean Grove, and Torquay are top destinations, offering everything from surf and sand to cafés and coastal walks.

This close proximity to the coast is part of the rhythm of everyday life. For many, it means morning swims, afternoon strolls, or a quick drive for a family outing. It’s a rare convenience that sets Harriott apart, especially for buyers looking to balance relaxed living with accessibility to Geelong and key employment hubs.

Green Spaces that Shape the Community

Nature and open space are central to life at Harriott. In fact, 77% of survey respondents said our community’s green spaces and parks are what they enjoy most about living here. Whether it’s walking trails through the wetlands, kids playing in the park, or residents taking a quiet moment in the landscaped open spaces, the connection to nature is strong.

This sense of outdoor living is only set to grow with the upcoming Hilltop Park. With 90% of residents saying they’re excited about the new green space, it’s clear that this park is a social and community hub in the making. Key features residents are looking forward to include swings and climbing structures, shaded seating, and space to meet other families.

A Quiet, Well-Connected Neighbourhood

Another clear takeaway from the survey is the value our residents place on Harriott’s peaceful environment. 74% of respondents said they enjoy the quietness and tranquility of the neighbourhood – something that’s becoming increasingly rare in rapidly growing areas.

But this calm atmosphere doesn’t come at the cost of convenience. Harriott is well connected to key local amenities, with 71% of residents rating proximity to shops, schools, and services as a major benefit. The most frequented retail centres are The Village Warralily (87%) and Armstrong Creek Town Centre (49%), meaning everything from groceries to healthcare and dining is just a few minutes away.

Local Convenience, City Connections

Over 50% of survey respondents say that one of their primary modes of transport is walking – second only to driving. We’re proud to be growing a walkable neighbourhood, where residents can access local amenities and everyday essentials without relying on a car. Whether it’s a morning stroll to grab a coffee, walking the kids to school, or an evening trip to the park, this ease of movement enhances daily life.

But Harriott isn’t just well connected locally, it’s also well-positioned for those commuting to Geelong or Melbourne. With easy access to the Surf Coast Highway and Barwon Heads Road, residents can reach Geelong’s CBD within 20 minutes. For Melbourne commuters, the Waurn Ponds train station is just a short drive away, offering V/Line services that connect to Southern Cross Station in around an hour and fifteen minutes.

A Growing and Engaged Community

Beyond lifestyle benefits, Harriott is home to a community that is both growing and engaged. Nearly all respondents (96.8%) are current residents, showing that the feedback is coming from those who are truly experiencing daily life in our neighbourhood. Overall satisfaction is also trending upward, with a current rating of 4.2 out of 5 – up from 3.9 in the last survey.

These survey responses affirm that the original vision for Harriott – a peaceful community nestled between the city and the sea – is not only resonating, but being lived every day. As our neighbourhood continues to take shape, we look forward to seeing how residents carry that vision forward through connection, care, and shared experience.
