Boost Your Home’s Street Appeal with These Front Landscaping Tips.

Creating a beautiful and welcoming front garden is one of the easiest ways to boost your home’s street appeal. At Harriott, we’re dedicated to fostering a sustainable and vibrant neighbourhood, and that starts right at your front door.

Keep reading to discover some helpful front landscaping tips, as well as some of the initiatives we implement to keep our community looking beautiful all year round.

5 Tips for Your Front Landscaping

Check the Harriott Design Guidelines
Before you get started, be sure to review Harriott’s landscaping design guidelines. These guidelines ensure your garden fits within the aesthetic of our community and complies with council regulations so you’re on the right track from day one.

Work with your environment
At Harriott, we encourage you to select plants that thrive in our local climate. Native plants are a great option as they require less water and attract local wildlife. Choosing hardy, drought-tolerant species will keep your garden looking fresh year-round with minimal maintenance.

Consider the structure
A well-designed front garden should have balance and structure. Opt for a mix of low shrubs, feature trees, and ground cover plants to create layers of interest. Make sure to leave enough space between plants for growth and avoid overcrowding, which can lead to higher maintenance needs later.

Incorporate mulch
Mulching is a great way to keep your garden looking tidy while reducing water evaporation and suppressing weeds. Apply a generous layer of mulch around your plants and trees to promote healthy soil and conserve moisture.

Plan for the future
Design your garden with growth in mind. Trees and shrubs will mature, so think about their long-term size when planting. Also, consider seasonal changes – choosing a mix of evergreen and deciduous plants will ensure your garden stays vibrant throughout the year.

Free Front Landscaping Packages

Nature Strip Maintenance

It is a council requirement that each resident is responsible for the maintainenance of the nature strip adjacent to their lot. For detailed guidelines, you can contact the City of Greater Geelong for advice on how to best care for these areas.
